This page provides links to information gathered on the activities and products of Prouds Electric Clocks and Scientific Instruments. Much of it was collected by the late Lawrence Tapprell and kindly passed on to us by his family.
The firm operated in Sydney from about 1912 to 1947, employing or training a number of important figures in Australian horology and instrument making.
Its first workshop foreman was the well known English horologist, Thomas John Murday, and Arthur Franklin worked there for a time.
As well as adding his English-designed battery clocks to Prouds' offerings, Murday was responsible for a number of innovative projects like his athletograph and microbarometer as well as an extensive synchronised clock system for the Circular Quay ferry wharves.
Later, the company seemed to concentrate very successfully on master/slave clock systems and tower clocks.
