This valve was used in transformerless domestic radios as the audio output stage, driving a loudspeaker.
The filament was connected in series with other valve filaments drawing the same current.
The supply voltage was higher than the combined voltage requirements of the filaments. A series ballast resistor or barretter valve absorbed the excess voltage.
