This insulator was screwed on to a threaded wooden dowel, which was mounted on a wooden or steel pole. Where in Central Australia it was found is not known, but may have supported the 19th Century Overland Telegraph Line from Adelaide to Darwin (3200km). When the Darwiniensis termite ate the hardwood poles, the wrought iron and concrete (South Australian) Stobie pole was substituted.
