An A battery supplied valve filament power, a B battery supplied valve HT, and a C battery supplied valve grid bias for old valve coffin and portable radios.
This C battery provided two negative grid biases , one -3, one -4.5 Volts. No current flowed and the battery was expected to last as long as its normal shelf life of several years.
